Introduction: How to Spend Your Time in Quarantine

All around the world, people everywhere are facing a similar situation. Most of us are facing a lockdown, either working from home or temporarily out of work and/or school, unless we're one of the essential workers on the front lines (a big thank you to all the healthcare professionals, grocery store and gas station employees, truck drivers, warehouse workers, garbage collectors, postal service workers, delivery drivers, and anyone else I may have missed who are still out there working hard to keep everyone alive). That means we likely have much more free time than we did a few weeks ago. So how are you spending your time?

I've been writing, listening to some great educational podcasts, signed up for some free online courses, doing some reading, played some video games, spending lots of time with my husband, my son, and my dogs, and I've been rewatching some of my old favorite shows. That's when I started thinking: why not blog about it? I don't know how long we're going to be quarantined for, but I know it'll be for at least another month. I work in a school and I know that more and more states have been making the decision to close schools for the remainder of the school year, which means I could be looking at the stay-at-home lifestyle until August. That means plenty of time to catch up on old hobbies and make some new ones.

I'm planning to start a rewatch of some of my favorite shows and blog about my opinions. I already own most on dvd, but there are also several places you can find them online if you want to join me on this little adventure. Since this will be a rewatch, I want to warn you now: there WILL be spoilers! Follow along at your own risk!

I'm thinking that the first show I'll likely rewatch is Robin Hood (the BBC version that aired from 2006-2009). Other shows that may follow that one include Firefly, Farscape, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Dawson's Creek, Smallville, Charmed, etc. I can't guarantee what order I'll go in or that I'll cover all of them and I may add some different shows into the mix instead. I'm pretty much just going to watch what I want, when I want, and may even post reviews for more than one show simultaneously. This is, first and foremost, about keeping myself entertained and sane while trapped in my house for months on end, so I'm going to watch and write about whatever makes me happy. If reliving happy memories from your favorite shows is something you'd like to do while you're in quarantine, come and join me! It will be fun! Just bring your own popcorn.

And remember folks: stay home, stay safe, and practice social distancing! We'll get through this together by staying apart.

Robin Hood 3x09 "A Dangerous Deal"

I think this episode is the Meg episode and if so I remember liking it so I'm excited to get started on this one! Let's begin! Thoughts While Watching So Robin’s sneaking in on Isabella in her bedroom and confronts her about becoming the new sheriff and Isabella immediately points out how rare it is for a woman to have a chance to get power like that. I know she’s crazy and going on a downward spiral to the dark side and will ultimately extremely screw over one of my favorite characters (Allan), but you know what, good for her. She’s right.  Wait, why would she fall when the prince does when the king returns? Just because Prince John appointed her that means she’s “working with a traitor” and against King Richard? I don’t think so. The previous sheriff is dead (or so they think). A new sheriff needs to be appointed. King Richard gave Prince John the authority to do that. She was legally appointed by the man that King Richard left in charge. Unless she directly helps P...

Robin Hood 1x12 "The Return of the King"

Woo! We made it to the first half of the two part season one finale! These next two episodes are going to be an emotional rollercoaster, but a fun one! Djaq and Marian both get to absolutely shine in this episode too, which is fantastic (I think this episode is only the second or third instance in the entire show so far that passes the Bechdel Test, which isn't great...), and everyone involved in the cave scenes gets to really show off their acting abilities here in a big way. I'm excited for this one, so let's begin! Thoughts While Watching: Guy looks so awkward holding that bird. You don't feed your birds?! I'm calling PETA! The cave doesn't seem that bad. I'd rather be in there than out in the rain. "Bats are rats, rats with wings." This whole scene is great. I love Much. I didn't know that fact about bats was something they would've known back then. Makes sense that Djaq would be the one to know it. Djaq knows everything. ...

Robin Hood 1x11 "Dead Man Walking"

It's the Little John episode! I'll be honest, this isn't one I tend to rewatch all that often and it's not one of my favorites. There's nothing about it that I dislike or anything and I love that it goes into Little John's story more deeply, but it's not one of the fun episodes, you know? It's depressing. The sheriff literally throws a festival to torture peasants for entertainment, including children, John has to face the horrible consequences of all the poor decisions he's made, he has to say goodbye to the son he's barely known and will probably never get the chance to know, and he has to watch the wife he's still in love with leave with another man, all of which leave him with suicidal tendencies that don't get addressed until next season. It even has a call-back to another depressing episode with Roy's tag being brought up again, who was also like a son to John and whom he also lost. This is just a dark and depressing episode all...
