Robin Hood 3x08 "The King Is Dead, Long Live the King..."

I don’t really remember much of anything about this episode and have no idea what’s coming, but let’s begin!

Thoughts While Watching

  • I wish there were scenes of them training in seasons one and two. I’d like to see that version of the gang having fun like that.
  • So we’re doing the fake king thing again. Cool cool. I remember this episode now.
  • “Long live me” LMAO I love him.
  • You’d feel it if he was dead, Robin? What?
  • Poor Much is scared of a dead body lol
  • This makes me wonder what would happen if you held a candle up to a body that was dead for a month. I know there are stories of some people from the Middle Ages who decomposed so badly that they had to be poured into their graves. Cool that Kate was able to figure out he was wax though.
  • The Prince isn’t falling for your crap, Isabella. At least not yet. I don’t remember if he does later.
  • Oh, sure, Kate. There’s no time. He has to get in the tight space with you. Ugh.
  • Oh, geez…Prince John clearly has some pent up rage. No joke though, my relationship with my sibling is bad too. I get his frustration and why he’s so upset even if he takes it to an absolutely ridiculously crazy level that I would never reach.
  • I love the complicated, messed up relationship between Guy and Isabella.
  • Well, I mean…King Richard is still alive. Why don’t they just use that pigeon that Allan brought back with him and send a message to Will and Djaq telling them to tell King Richard what John did. Problem solved within a month or two. Prince John would only temporarily be king and then possibly assassinated for treason (or at least they’d think that, but we know he does eventually become king historically so they couldn’t kill him off in the show). If they couldn’t get the actors back, they do that part off screen. If they could, WE WOULD HAVE GOTTEN WILL AND DJAQ BACK. The perfect solution to a stupid non-problem.
  • So now we find out that Guy and Isabella were living in France as almost nobodies before Guy sold her in marriage.
  • I hate Guy. He really deserves to just be handed over and killed.
  • Sheridan is so weird and ridiculous.
  • I like that Kate’s disguise is just literally being a drunken slut (and I don’t mean that as an insult, I mean it in the best possible way).
  • I mean, stealing the crown is only a temporary solution because a new crown can be made. My solution is better.
  • Robin’s learned since the strong room stuff in season two.
  • Kate’s good at this.
  • Geez, Allan. You ruined everything because you were jealous. Or maybe he really did have the best intentions and didn’t want her to feel like she had to be taken advantage of physically for the sake of their plan, but still. She seemed in control of the situation. I like that he sticks up for women and doesn’t want them to be taken advantage of though. Very chivalrous of him and you don’t usually get the sense that he’s that type of guy.
  • Gross! Scorpions? Is that what those were?
  • Robin is always super careful getting through the traps to his destination and then just runs back through the booby traps without a care. Didn’t he do the same thing in “Booby and the Beast” in the strongroom? Does he realize you can get killed just as easily on his way back out?
  • I wonder if the crown really couldn’t be replaced or if that guy is just looking for an excuse not to do the coronation.
  • I love that Kate and Allan are bickering about that. It’s cute.
  • Guy tied and gagged in a bed…more fanfic fuel. Love it!
  • Was that a mouse trap?
  • At least Guy didn’t kill that girl. Good work on his part.
  • Good point, Sheridan. If the king cared about his country, he would be there. He’s right.
  • Much is out of line here with these accusations against Allan.
  • I get Kate’s frustration too. Maybe that’s why she was never into Allan or Much, they were both underestimating her and trying way too hard to be her knight in shining armor.
  • Ugh…Kate runs into Robin’s arms and kisses him…and in front of Much.
  • I love Prince John in this scene! He’s such a ham.
  • Oh, shut up, Robin. Guy’s right. Let him shoot him.
  • So Guy shoots Isabella, Robin shoots Guy, all the while Prince John is cowering in fear and trying to sneak away to safety.
  • So the archbishop says that anyone who draws blood in the house of God will be damned for all eternity and obviously they all care enough about their religious beliefs and take them seriously enough that every one of them is like, okay cool, we’ll drop the weapons but the fight isn’t over yet. Now it’s just a massive fist fight. Love it! And of course the outlaws make it out.
  • Guy’s in a cage, Sheridan is tied up in a carriage, and Isabella was given the job of sheriff. How historically accurate is this? Would any woman have been made sheriff in the Middle Ages? I should research that.

Final Thoughts

This episode is super fun! I love it! Great episode concept, an exciting plot, at least one important turning point with Isabella being made sheriff, and a nice send off for Prince John, though I will miss him. I really enjoyed this one and I’m looking forward to the next one!

P.S. This whole post is kind of formatted weird because my internet wasn't working and I typed it out in Word and then copied and pasted it. I'll have to see how it turns out. If I hate it, I'll never do it again and I'll try to fix it if I can. If I like it, I might continue doing them this way.

Robin Hood 2x03 "Childhood"

This is a really cute episode! I loved seeing how the gang has already become legendary enough that they've reached a kind of superhero status for the local children who play as their favorite outlaw. The kids were adorable and the whole episode was sweet and fun. I definitely rewatch this one a lot and I'm excited to see it again, so let's begin! Alright, Guy fans...this pic is for you! Thoughts While Watching: The episode starts out with four little boys playing Robin Hood. We know which one is supposed to be Robin himself (Daniel), but I'm wondering who each of the rest of them are supposed to be. There's six outlaws total at this point so not all of them are going to be represented. I'm not sure if their outfits are just what they normally wear or if they're supposed to be dressed up as their chosen outlaw, because one of them seems to be wearing an outfit similar to Will's and another looks like he's wearing a vest that sort of remind...

Robin Hood 3x04 "Sins of the Father"

I took about a two month break from my rewatch. Since I last reviewed an episode I've been working on a Robin Hood fanfic (the rough draft is finished and I'm editing now and trying to work up the courage to post it), rewatching random episodes of other shows (kinda on a Charmed kick lately), and started a new rewatch of Robin Hood with a fan group I'm in. I've also, of course, been dealing with real life. I know quarantine is over for most people, but not my family! I'll still be out of work until at least the end of August (I work in a school and while I absolutely love my job, I'm honestly considering looking for a new one because I'm really concerned about the uncertainty of the upcoming school year) and my husband is still mostly working from home. At least that means I still have time to watch my shows! I think another reason the rewatch has been going so much slower for season three is that my heart is really just not in it. I love seasons one and two...

Robin Hood 3x05 "Let the Games Commence"

We left off last time with Kate officially joining the gang and I think, if I recall correctly, this episode has the first appearance of Isabella and the return of Guy. Is this the lion episode? I feel like this is the episode with a random lion in it, but I don't remember much else. Let's begin! Thoughts While Watching It's Isabella! I was right! Out of all the new characters for season three, she's the one I remember liking the best.  Yeah, kick his ass, girl! Love how she faked him out! Okay, so...I barely remember anything about season three which is making this difficult for me to understand. If I recall correctly, in the flashback episode (Bad Blood? I think...) it's revealed that Robin knew both Guy and Isabella when they were children. I'm guessing he just doesn't recognize her here. Do they bring up the fact that he knows her and knew Guy had a sister at all before that episode? Or do they just make it seem like Robin forgot about them? I...
